The Power of Beauty

It’s odd, but I used to think flowers were overrated. It’s true. When I was younger I kicked all the heads off of the tulips in a multiple garden. I know, that is truly horrible. Please don’t judge me. At the time I laughed til my sides ached. I just didn’t understand the draw of flowers. Somehow, years later, here I am with my face in fresh flowers loving every second of it.

Why? I think it’s because I had forgotten how to celebrate and accept gifts. After some wild life events, I eventually learned how to celebrate again. Celebration causes us to appreciate more. Celebration allows us shower and serve others with love and allow ourselves to be showered with and served with love. This renewed appreciation for beauty brings me to appreciate art in a clearer way.

I fought being an artist for a long time. I felt like beauty was unnecessary. All my artwork needed to be useful in a sense. I could not see that the beauty itself was useful. Beauty encourages and inspires. Beauty rejuvenates. Beauty helps us celebrate and when we look at beautiful things God has made, it can also cause us to celebrate that beautiful gift. From there, we look upward to the ultimate beauty of God and his great love for us. Friend, if you’ve forgotten how to celebrate, here is your reminder! Find someone or something to celebrate today!
