While the above painting is new, I wrote most of of this last year while I worked as a nurse. I hope it encourages someone out there today!

Working and living life during a pandemic, especially those of us working on the front lines, can tunnel a person’s vision to see only stress, sadness and anxiety. But God, in His magnificent love for us, gives us His spirit of peace. He also promise to restore and reconcile things to himself. And he calls us to reconcile ourselves to Him as well.

”All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation. We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God. (2 Corinthians 5:18-20)

During these challenging times, he does not leave us without encouragement in the challenging work of reconciliation. He gives us creation, an endless gallery of his best works of art to refresh us. That is, if we look. Where is it? All day and every day, this magnificent world, with all of its beauty, declares He is control, despite what we may feel. As the psalmist wrote,

“God’s glory is on tour in the skies,
God-craft on exhibit across the horizon.
Madame Day holds classes every morning,
Professor Night lectures each evening.

Psalm 19:1-2

Question I am pondering and invite you to join me:

  1. What area of my life is it challenging to thank God in?

  2. Where can I find reasons to thank Him and reconcile myself to Him?

If this encouraged you at all, I would love for you to let me know and I’ll join you in prayer for whatever you need.
