How to Stay Anchored in Abundance

As a Christian, I believe that God has gifted all of us with some form of creativity. Since we were made in His image, and He is the first and best Creator, we all reflect that in some form or another.

So what does it mean to me when I’m gathering up creativity to co-create with the Divine Artist? What does it look like to me? I figured now’s the time to describe that process just a little bit.

I start each day plunging into scripture (and coffee haha!). Giving those first parts of my day to Him allow me to continue to grow roots in His never-ending depths of joy and creativity. This time often inspires images, thoughts, or emotions that turn into paintings or help with commissions and projects. Beyond that, it helps me rejuvenate my creativity and remember why I make things. For His glory, we are called to live abundant lives. Sometimes it is challenge to keep my mind form negative spaces if the day before left me feeling discouraged. But that is the beauty and importance of this daily early morning practice. It’s not ultimately about my emotions at all- it’s about Him.

I think that is partly why so many great artists were and are troubled. We are told as artists in this world to feel deeply and others will see our visions. But a problem can quickly develop in the artist’s heart and mind: they begin to think their emotions are the ultimate ruler. The heart can lead us to beautiful places, for sure, but by itself without reason and spirit, they are wildly deceitful!

So I stay anchored to His words and presence each morning. This practice helps me remember that the abundant creative life comes not from myself, but from the Divine Creator Himself!

What about you? What are your practices to help you stay fresh?
