The War on Motherhood: A Pep Talk to Moms

If you know me, you know I’m not a mom. So why am I writing this? Because I am a daughter of a mom, sister to two moms, daughter-in-law to a mom, sister-in-law to three moms, and best friend to moms. And you know what ticks me off? How Satan gets each of them to feel unqualified as a mom. I hate beyond anything that Satan makes them feel “mommy guilt” - they are amazing moms.

“No, Lydia, I was a bad mom today” they have all said to me.

“For pity’s sake,” I want to yell, “you are already an ALL-STAR mom simply because you CARE about not being perfect for your child!”

Also guess what? No mom is ever perfect for their child. The only perfect mothering that is done is God mothering us. And yes, God mothers, check out His words from Isaiah 66:13: As one whom his mother comforts, so I will comfort you.

My point is that if you’re reading this and you’re a mom who is trying to treat your child like Jesus would and teach them about His love and how to love others - you are crushing it! You are waging war against Satan in a spiritual battlefield and you’re winning every dang day you get out of bed and are a mom (which is everyday).

You won’t ever fight perfectly when you raise your children or encourage them as adults to follow the Lord.

Guess what? God doesn’t care one tiny crumb that you aren’t perfect. He actually knows better how NOT perfect you are. He is God, after all.

But guess what else? He gave you those young souls to raise. He already qualified you for this role. In fact, you got promoted to it and you never need to worry about getting fired from it- you’ve got tenure for life- you’re someone’s mom. You can’t un-mom yourself!

And if God called you to a role you can’t quite, be fired from, or take holidays from, you are most certainly beyond qualified because those are the “completely necessary can’t take days off” roles. You know the only other role that I can think of like that? The President of the Unites States.

God doesn’t make mistakes. He didn’t say “oops, shouldn’t have given so-and-so that kid!”

No.

He knew exactly who He gave you to parent. And it’s your calling, delight and responsibility to hold your head up high when Satan comes prowling around to make you feel unqualified - it’s your job to tell him just where to shove it!

Go crush your day, moms. Remember, God already qualified you. Please don’t let Satan make you feel like you aren’t!
